Winchester Street

Southwark (SE1) Named from the Bishops of Winchester, whose episcopal palace and gardens stood near the south end of London Bridge. In 1814 nearly the whole of the remains of the ancient mansion was destroyed by fire. (Reference: Jesse's London, vol. III, p. 430)
