Strand (EC4) Here are some of the oldest chambers in the Temple. It was between the Temple Gate and the Bar that, in 1583, Francis Bacon stood among his brother-barristers to welcome Queen Elizabeth I into the City. (Reference: Timbs's Curiosities of London, p. 464)
