City, Crutched Friars (EC3) In this street is St. Olave's Church, a small but interesting church dedicated to St. Olave, or Olaf, a Norwegian saint of the eleventh century. This was the parish church attended by the gossiping, good-humoured Secretary of the Admiralty, Samuel Pepys. He and his wife were buried here. In this street, four doors from Mark Lane, stood an ancient mansion styled in the old leases "Whittington's Palace," and said to have been the residence of Richard Whittington, Lord Mayor of London.
