Finsbury

(EC2) Or Fensbury, named from its fenny ground. Finsbury appears to have been a very early locality for archery, for in the reign of Edward I there was formed a society called the Archers of Finsbury. The Royal Artillery Ground, Finsbury, was perhaps the earliest cricket-ground in London ; for here a match was played between Kent and All England in 1746.
