Hello........
I was head chorister of St Philips Church in the 50's the choir master was Lionel Hopkins. The priest was Father Carpenter. Their were 30 uin the choir and I have a photo of us in front of the alter. The church was always full.....and we had three servces each Sunday. Communion, 1am and 6.30pm. I guess that it could be desribded as a high church -i.e. incense and processionsa round the congregation. The church hall was always used (next to Downhills School) where I went to school and the annual Fete was always something to look fiorward to. The Scouts had a building alongside the parish hall.
I lived in Clonmell Road and Philip Lane...
Good times.
