A review of White Knight Laundry Services Ltd by Diane Vincent written on Monday 28th of July 2008
Back in the 1950's, my mother started as a telephonist at White Knight, when it was just a laundry with petrol pumps on the forecourt. The laundry at that time was owned an run equally by Mr Bernard and Mr Martin Tomlins. As I remember, the accountant was Mr Thomas and there were drivers - some of whom I can still remember. There was Malcolm Lumley, Bunny Cheffey, Alf Thomas and his brother (name forgotten)and others whose names elude me at the moment. It was a very friendly place to work and had a lovely staff canteen upstairs (above the loading bay) and next door to the sorting room.
My mother was later to run the office for many years until she moved to Southampton in the 1970's and I spent many happy holidays, as a child, working in the offices of White Knight, White King (in Kilburn), Hogarth (in Chiswick) and in the Rayners Lane, Acton and Teddington shops. At that time the only part of White Knight that I never worked in was May Cottage.
The reason for this message is for anybody past or present who remembers my mum, Elsie Crawley, I have to pass on the sad news that she recently passed away but would have wanted to be remembered to her contempory's .
