A review of Baldwins Sarsaparilla Ltd by Antony written on Wednesday 18th of June 2008
The original Baldwins shop was located by the railway bridge at the bottom of Walworth rd, it moved due to redevelopment back in the late 60's.
I used to get my pint of sarsaparilla there. It was served on a glass pint jug and filled with cold water under pressure giving a great foaming top.
The then owners' wife was my Great Aunt.
They moved to the shops present location and expanded over the years. You could buy it by the gallon , if you look closely you can see a container of it in the film Long Good friday.
The chap selling sarsaparilla in East street (East lane) did not sell Baldwins Sarsapirilla, His was sold under another name - he also sold it hot during winter.
