A review of Kings Hotel by D Voysey written on Friday 1st of February 2008
I'd never been to London before, and i wanted to be quite central to the sights. We were only staying for two nights.
The booking-in was exceptionally good and fast. The young lady was very efficient and helpful, although her English wasn't very good..but, to her credit, she became our helper and anything we wanted, she could help us with.
I paid the balance, and we headed to the room, a twin room.
And that is when mother started to have doubts.
The room seemed like a large single room with two single beds in it; the TV channels were the wrong way round (itv was channel 1 etc).
I didn't mind, but mother was picky.
The shower, toilet and basin (with no plug), were in a space no bigger than 9ft by 3ft.
The room was really, really warm...or as mother put it "a sauna". And the walls were thick, so there was no hearing (apart from the odd occassion) of the "neighbours".
On the first night, having had a look around the city, we came back to exceptional service at the bar - literally waited on hand and foot...we thought that we had gone to a bar next door...but that was to be our breakfast place; really pleasant guys at our service...they made us feel at home.
It seemed so strange, being in London, with foreign hosts...and it seemed foreign guests, too.
The continental brekkie, (croissants, toast, coffee, orange juice) was very substantial.
The female host, whose name i never knew, was very, very the most helpful (and patient) person i have ever met - she had to have been, after meeting my mother.
It seems a very popular place with groups; the breakfast bags were in a line in reception.
The only downer for me was the tv. I got used to the shower, and lack of headboard.
And the only other lack was that the balcony door didn't open.
Overall, my ratings are as follows:
Service: 10/10
Room: (as a twin 7/10), the single rooms are
probably different.
Price: 9/10
Hospitality: 10/10
A very nice hotel in a very central part of London; with great hosts to match.
