Todays BBC news featured the school that I attended during the war years. We used to shelter in the large corridor whenever an air raid siren sounded. At lunch times we went home for dinner and if bombs were falling used to shelter in the nearest house doorway. The teachers were strict but fair and were so good that most of us passed the 11 plus. One I remember was a Miss Marshall, she often used a ruler across my hand because I always managed to get a loop in the up stroke of a small d, I still do this 64 years later.

There used to be a large picture of a sailing ship in the corridor, is it still there? .
