A review of The Amersham Arms by Milly written on Friday 12th of October 2007
The Amersham Arms is open again! Last night at the Amersham Arms there were hoards of people having what seemed to be a very good time all round. The last time I saw that many people in there was when Chas & Dave were there. Last night the bands were great (definitely more my cup of tea than Chas & Dave) but I'm not sure this place will be the place for any serious music lovers unless they do something about the sound. The Amersham for me has always been a place to go to see live bands at the weekend. The bands themselves often hit or miss but the one constant about the Amersham as it was, was the excellent sound quality. Don't know what happened last night but the sound was atrocious - worst I've heard in there ( and any where else I think) for years! The first band sounded better for some reason than the the second which did honestly sound dreadful (Were there any vocals?!) There did seem to be a huge crowd from North London in, and I'm interested to see if they'll be back. On the whole I think it has been a brilliant transformation, decor, service, lighting, and atmosphere and it certainly could become the place to be! P.S Forgot to say that security was a bit OTT many of them stood around as if looking for trouble-not good idea a in South London!.
