A review of Forest Hill Tavern by Ian C written on Monday 17th of September 2007
I've lived 2 mins round the corner from the Forest Hill Tavern for 9 years, and always passed it by as the dingy local pub, in favour of other places in East Dulwich.
However, two visiting friends persuaded me to take them for Sunday lunch there last weekend, and I have to say I was rather blown away. Obviously a re-fit and a change of management have done wonders for the place.
We had the roast beef and lamb, both of which were generously portioned and accompanied by a range of perfectly cooked veg (swede purée and saffron potatoes amongst them). Staff were attentive and bent over backwards to accommodate my friend's 10-month old baby who came with us. The decking in the garden was a perfect setting, and other groups with/without kids came and went and seemed to enjoy themselves.
Definitely worth a visit. If this place was in Central London, I'd still rate it as highly for a good honest Sunday lunch, and a reasonable price. Snobs may disagree, but those in search of good food and a decent lunch venue will enjoy the place..
