A review of The Landseer by John James written on Tuesday 17th of October 2006
I have been coming to the Landseer for a while now, and finally they have hired a real chef (to live up to the gastro tag). I hear that he has had AA rosettes elsewhere, and judging by my friend's monkfish tail with crayfish pate and rocket pesto he has not lost his touch. My steak was cooked to perfection and came with wilted spinach and a veal jus with the most intense flavour. The dessert of lime & basil creme brulee managed to be both rich and delicate, and the top thin and crunchy. Superb!
The recently decorated conservatory restaurant is a touch plain, but very elegant. Black and white photos of New York with even more plants than before seem to work, and the bar has had a minor facelift with some different lighting. Even the toilets have been touched up.
Service was a touch slow when i went last, but friendly and attentive, and our waiter recommended some cocktails to help wash our meal down. This place has always been one of my favourite places for drinks, at last there is food worth shouting about!.
