For a real treat, and a slightly different slant on Indian cuisine, do try the Royal Nepalese Restaurant in SE3. From the time you first enter the door as newcomers, a warm welcome is always there, provided by the delightful 'patron' his brothers, and cousins.

And the food is truly wonderful. Do go for the Nepalese specialities. All are cooked to perfection by a exceptional chef.

The wine list is worth a look. They have a superb St Emilion that is actually better than I have ever found anywhere, even at twice the £16 they charge, and the house champagne, elegant and with tiny bubbles, rival the grand marques, and is thoroughly recommended.

For Beer drinkers, Nepalese beer is excellent, and worth going back for itself.

The final surprise is the bill.

Always supplieled complete with service, and no extra looked for - it is always so modest, especially in view of the very generous portions, that I feel a mistake has been made.

I go back regularly, and so will anyone fortunate enough to discover it..
