A review of Cann Hall Primary School by Judith Bland written on Wednesday 20th of June 2007
I taught at Cann Hall school in the 1970s; it was my first teaching post, and far and away the best. I learnt to teach there - not at college.
At Cann Hall I discovered that I could really teach - grab children's imagination and whirl it around, stretch it, fill it, remould it. We had fun, my classes and I; but all the while never forgetting that I had knowledge to impart, and they had to assimilate it. That was proper teaching; the children loved us for it. Misbehaviour was present but rare, and never on the sort of scale that finally finished me, last July.
I have now retired early, exhausted and demoralised. I will never teach again. But I will always be grateful for my first five years at Cann Hall..
