A review of Chutneys by Man About Town written on Saturday 26th of May 2007
Went here recently and was appalled at both the food and service. Curry was watery and tasteless whilst the "lamb" was tough and grey in colour (no joke). We were offered a 30% discount and after inspecting the illegible bill scrawled on a piece of paper, I realised something was wrong when it came to £36 for 2 beers, 2 wines (one of each was supposedly free), papadoms and our curries, rice and naan. I queried this and the waiter became irate before I helped him recalculate the bill (which actually came to £30 - still too much for Brick Lane). I then paid at which point the money was taken without a word and the waiter walked off. A disgrace and to be avoided at all costs. I left feeling like a fool as I did not think such places existed and were only read about..
