"Great for the small things, not so hot for high-quality and enduring products"

I often use this particular branch of 99p Store for purchasing things as diverse as handwashes, small plastic combs (when you break yours and need time before buying a 'proper' one), and (on desperate occassions) biscuits. They are particularly useful when you need to buy throw-away hardware such as remote control- and watch batteries, which are more expensive elsewhere or hard to find. I wouldn't recommend buying food from here, not because it's cheap, but because the layout of the store is such that everything is very cramped, and I found many sweets juxtaposed with pesticide or bleach. This branch mostly attracts the 'common' crowds, so don't expect things to be at Wilkinson's or Woolworth's standard, but usually you can find what you are looking for, whether it's toy abacuses or woven baskets, kitchen ware or underwear. Things not worth buying from here: toys as gifts as they are easily broken and not safe for under-10s; clothing; food; can-openers (I bought one for my dorms, it broke and cut me in the process - better to spend £4.99 on one that works). Essentially you get what you pay for, but I'm going up there tomorrow to get some more batteries....
