Have used the principles I learnt on the Assertiveness Training Course SO MUCH over so many years and intended SO many times to write and thank the Centre for the life-changing help I got, it seems about time I wrote a review! Have just recommended the Assertiveness Training to someone whose good nature has been badly abused by someone else for the last year and who desperately needs some guidance and some new tools to deal with these kinds of situations. This person,like others I have pointed towards this course, would have difficulty finding anywhere else the kind of counselling and practical help that is made readily available at the Help Advisory Centre. It was clear to me at the time that others on my course would not have been able to access that type of help easily anwhere else. I joined an amazing cross-section of people, facing an wide cross-section of difficult situations;all really in need of help; in need of confidence and better negotiating tools. The Facilitators were brilliant at tuning in to each of us and enabling us to practice expressing ourselves more assertively, in a really constructive and practical way. My group was sympathetic and supportive. The whole weekend an eye-opener and really empowering. I think we all headed back into life aware of how we might negotiate more calmly, reasonably and effectively and hopeful for making a change. I left with a real sense of how I might go about asking for more fairness from an employer. However, beyond that, what I learnt has fed into changing my whole "mindset" in a very positive way. I feel entitled and able to express my needs more generally now and that has changed how I feel about myself. It has also changed how well I am able to look after myself as I negotiate the many tricky situations that arise in life. I have never seen those people I did the training with again, but I often hope they managed to improve things for themselves. I know that if they used the great tools we were offered that weekend, they probably will have. The changes in behaviour that I learnt have been truly life-changing and truly invaluable. Cannot recommend the course enough or the lovely, helpful people at Help Advisory Centre more warmly. So grateful. Glad to have a chance to express it!.
