A review of Monkfrith Primary School by Sheila (nee Kaye) written on Wednesday 7th of August 2013
I was born in 1945 and lived in Palmers Green. When I was 5, I moved with my parents to The Woodlands, Southgate. Your delightful school opened, I believe in the May 1950 and in the September 1950, I started there. I was extremely happy there for 3 years (in those years you were at Primary School until you were 8) when I went to Osidge School. I had lovely teachers at Monkfrith School, but Miss Guard was the one I always remember and will never forget. Every child should have a teacher like she was at the start of their schooling life. She was delightful, so much so, I used to call her "aunty", and she was sweet enough not to correct me. One day she called my mum and dad in to "put them in the picture" about me! Apparently, she told them, that when she read a story to us, the other children would sit quietly and listen, me, I'd be walking around the classroom picking up bits and pieces. After a while I had noticed that the other children didn't do this, and so I "sort of" sat....but as she told the story, you could hear me saying, "um" "really" "no". On hearing all this, my mum and dad were quite concerned but Miss Guard said it was fine, I would grow out of it (which I did) thankfully, but she thought it best to tell my parents. I made many friends at Monkfrith. In 1975 I got married and have two daughters Michelle and Natasha (Finesilver) now 36 and 31! Needless to say they also went to Monkfrith and LOVED it just like I did. In about 1950 (ish) a school picture was taken of my class and I....later on, many years later I showed Mr. Harvey and he put it in his room. Would ypou still have it. I'd love it and have never been able to locate it. My name is Sheila (nee Kaye) Finesilver..
