Why are people so hyper critical of sports commentators, such as Declan Quigley, (and I,ve read adverse comments about Carlton Kirby's knowledge of pro-cycling on British Eurosport.) I watched the Giro d'Italia on Eurosport and enjoyed listening to Mr. Quigley. The reason that the commentators don't always see a crash on the screen when the viewer does, is that at that moment the commentator may be looking at some info on paper. Also, he had far more to say on the race progress than Sean Kelly ever does. He usually speaks only when he's spoken to.
I've watched a lot of pro cycling on British Eurosport, and quite often the stages last for up to 5 hours or more, and nothing much happens until the last 30-40 kilometres, but Quigley, Harman, Kirby and co. have to keep up a running commentary for all that time. Definitely not an easy job !!
P.S. I enjoy Carlton Kirby's commentarys as well. .
