A review of Apollo Restaurant by Lovetoeat written on Saturday 22nd of October 2011
Six of us went on a Saturday night (one of my friends knew a relative of the owner). We were stuck on a table more suitable for four. It was about as wide as a paste/decorating table, and only long enough for three people to sit either side very close to each other. Not enough room on the table for everything so we used the empty table next to us.
Food was mediocre - just what you get in any other Greek restaurant - no worse, no better. The service was not great - waiters constantly hovering around the table for some reason. At the end of the main course, we were given a plate of fruit - we thought it was complimentary. THey said it was "to go with the drinks". We asked for the dessert menu to be told that they didn't have anything available at all. So no desserts there then !
The live music sounded like a EUrovision song contest. !
Drinks exdtortionately expensive. Had a few Keo beers, two bottles of wine, and the men had a large jack daniels and coke and a couple of Metaxas.
The bill for six of us was a whooping £290 - with half of that going on drinks. I would mind if a) we had drunk loads or b) you got decent shots of spirits but they were just optic measure.
All in all - really really not worth it. If it had been down to me solely, I would not have paid that bill but my friends would not have supported me and whimped out although they all complained later !
Being as we knew a relative of the owner, we sent a complaint email to the owner. DId not even have the courtesy of a response. Sent a reminder - still no response.
Don't bother - go somewhere else. Sit on a more comfortable table, Get better food, better entertainment and above all else, you won't be paying top London prices for drinks in a seedy areas of North London.
