A review of Nazareth House by Dave Hewitt written on Sunday 1st of May 2011
I am trying to assist a friend in searching for her half sister Una Theresa Goodwin . Una was born on the 1st December 1925 to Matilda Goodwin a cotton weaver of Commercial Road, Aldgate, London. Matilda (her mother) was born at 129 Haslingden Road, Blackburn. Una 's father may have been of Asian origin As Matilda was not married at this time Una was placed in a Covent home on August 27th 1928 . This was at Nazareth House Hammersmith Road London. When Una also known by her 2nd name Theresa was of working age she was sent to The Little Sisters of Nazareth mother & baby unit at Nazareth House 162 East End Road, Finchley London. Their records say that Una was doing well at this time but no trace can be found of her after this period. Did she marry or go abroad at the end of the war? My friend Wyn ( Una 's half sister) is not sure that Una even knows of her existence as she was the daughter of a later marriage to Perry Stanley Davis a Fireman. Una 's Grandmother was Mary Goodwin of 2 Pearson Street, Blackburn a cotton spinner who sadly died in her 25th year. Wyn has tried all other avenues including professional researchers, the Salvation Army, the Lord Cardinal & the National Trace Line, all to no avail..
