A review of Spicy Basil by Ems written on Saturday 21st of August 2010
Being a Thai student, i'm completely rubbish at cooking and was missing authentic Thai food so I chose to order from Spicy Basil as they were cheap. Their menu is nothing fancy, just basic Thai food. I live (by car/motorbike) no more than 5 minutes away, most likely less. I ordered a mere two dishes and it took more than an hour. I called them when I had waited 45minutes already, to ask where my food was. The lady said to me straight away 'yeah it's coming, on it's way! be there soon'. She didn't even ask for my name, number, address or order so how could she possibly know it's on its way. Please bear in mind I ordered in English so she couldn't have possibly known who I was. I got irritated when she did this so argued that how does she know that when she doesn't even know my order.. she was very rude and hostile back, even cussing me in Thai to her colleagues before hanging up.
The next thing that upset me was the delivery man was EXTREMELY rude. He was shouting at me because I didn't come out of my flat, which only has TWO floors, to receive the food. Disgusting customer service! I told him right back that I've ordered from MANY restaurants and NO ONE has had a problem coming to my door or finding it. And if he did have a problem, he should have told me politely in the intercom instead of coming to my door shouting at me.
Lastly, the food was pathetic and I'm Thai so I would know. Guess I should've expected that for the cheap prices. Food was obviously cooked in a hurry and cold, taste was off and they fill up the take away box with 75% sauce and mixed vegetables. I ordered prawns, and I only got 4 tiny ones - like cocktail prawns. Afterwards, I just lost my appetite and went to make an omelette which I enjoyed FAR MORE. .
