A review of Fantasy Tattooing by Stella written on Wednesday 23rd of June 2010
My first tattoo nerves were quickly calmed by the very relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly, inked up characters strolling in and out, mugs of tea and smoking in the sun outside.
I had explained exactly what I wanted done the day before when making my appointment, but the lovely lady let me flick through all the designs to best describe what I wanted done. This was really helpful, since my design was a custom piece, which she later redrew for me.
After a few minutes, I was lead into the chair, felt a lot like being at a really interesting dentists. There's plenty of odd ornaments, shrunken heads, elaborate designs, reviews, posters and pin-up girls to take your mind off the actual procedure.
My friend was allowed to be just outside the door, which was good because he would have only been a distraction. However, there was a sweet and reassuring lady opposite me who calmly explained that the guy with the needle digging into my arm was the only one she'll ever go to.
Looking at he quality of her tattoos, well, they were great.
People often say that where the skin is at it's thinnest is the most pain - particularly the inner wrist.
However, this was the closest thing I can imagine to a 'painless' tattoo.
Sure, it wasn't totally comfortable, but definitely not PAINFUL. The stories I've heard about excruciating agony, nerve endings, blood and fully grown men shedding tears melted away.
5 minutes later, it was all over. Disbelief is all I can think of.
So quick!
Once I had had a little look, they sprayed, wrapped and said their goodbyes.
Totally reasonable, almost painless and speedy!
I didn't feel rushed, they weren't in any hurry to get me in and out of the chair with some botched ink - there was evident care and attention.
if another design popped into my head. Yeah, I'd go there..
