A review of The Breakspear Arms by Anonymous written on Tuesday 30th of March 2010
I went there on Saturday 27th March as they had a band & live music.
Nice Pub, with a lot of people, (someone said it was someone's Birthday Party). It took over 20 mins to get a drink as ther seemed to be only two people serving. There were two other people collecting glasses, but I did not see them helping out to serve.
They had on the usual IPA/Greene King and a another Real Ale, called Flankers Tackle.
They were in two Firkinns of this on the back Bar. They were wedged but not very well, as the barrels moved every time beer was served from them. It was a little too warm. I was fortunate as my beer was warm but ok. Others were not so lucky, their Flankers Tackle were cloudy.
Several people took their pints back, but were refused new or alternative beer and told, that they were all like that, cloudy and that nothing was wrong with it.
I heard someone say, who bought an IPA and left his Flankers Tackle Pint on the bar, that the IPA was a little too cold.
I have been drinking & serving Real Ales for over 20 years and have never come across this type of behaviour before. Cloudy Real Ale may be ok to drink & taste, but you should never, never serve it or refuse someone who brings back a cloudy Real Ale.
For the Record I have ran my own Pub & Club, as well as being a Bars Manager for a Sports Club. I have had my name mentioned in the Camra guide for the way I promoted & served Real Ales..
