A review of The Sahara Grill by Raz written on Monday 22nd of March 2010
I visited the Ilford Restaurant but I assume the produce and service is identical to the Leyton Branch.
Ambience - The restaurant was empty when I arrived, but the decor was very inviting and comfortable. When fully packed the restaurant would probably have a nice vibrant atmosphere.
You have full view of the grill and chefs preparing the food, which is a nice touch for a Grill based eatery 7/10
Service - Staff were very welcoming and available at all times during the meal. They had excellent knowledge of the menu and accomodated our request when varying some items we ordered.
There was a small issue with the mains being served immediatley after the appetisers. It would have been nice to stagger the mains to allow the appetisers to be finished but generally excellent service 9/10
Food - For a grill it was strangely dissapointing and most dishes sampled were hit or miss. Some of the meat served, including the burgers had a distinct and delicous flavour, the quality of the produce was good. However sauces were a let down, the gravy served with the Rump steak tasted alot like a well known brand and the frozen chips were both stale and undercooked.
Presentation was ill concieved as serving a cold salad on the same plate as a steak drenched in gravy resulted in everything becoming soggy. Perhaps the salad and gravy should have been served seperatley Or is there even the need for a cold salad?
Overall the food was not beyond anything you could find in typical fast food chains or even make at home.
5/10
Price - A real issue, rump steak with chips and salad came to around £14 which for the quanity and quality wasn't good value for money - most items on the menu seemed overly priced
4/10
OVERALL - 25/40
An average grill experience that will leave you remembering the helpful staff but sadly forgetting most of the food on offer
