A review of Amita Restaurant by M written on Monday 15th of March 2010
To set the tone- I have eaten in many restaurants: from the finest establishments in London to the standard, every day Pizza Express.
in this review I will first focus on food. Secondly, value for money. Thirdly any additional comments I think relevant.
Firstly
In my opinion the food to be found at Amitas is simply brilliant. The food is delicious, and I can say with utmost confidence that I have never eaten food like this restaurant serves. (especially Chilli Mogo fry, Paneer Chilli Dry, Kachori, & Shaks (ie curries). As you would imagine, this is not the kind of place where you will find delicately garnished, immaculately presented dishes. It is simple, honest food. Delicious simple, non pretentious food, and the flavours are incredible. The kind of dishes they serve- if you are an indian Londoner- then think Jays in Kingsbury (back int he days it was good) but less snacky- with more shacks (curries), and other dishes.
Beautiful food- have never been let down to this date (and hope I never will be).
Secondly, Value for money
Despite what another review has stated, the food is outstanding value for money. I go there often with my family (4 of us)- and we are all big eaters (especially myself) (to give you a guideline you may be able to relate to- I can eat a whole large dominos pizza, plus side of wedges easily- no problems).
So when I come to Amitas I stuff myself (as do my family) with food, and the bill always works out to less than £10 per head.
less than £10 per head, and leaving completely satisfied in both taste and quantity is something I cannot think anyone could complain about. I'm sorry but if this is not in your view good value for money then you have no idea whatsoever about today's prices in the industry- this is simply superb.
Lastly, relating to service and other issues- admittedly, as with most indian restaurants of this type, the service is not bespoke. However the man working there is the usual, and he really is a very kind man, and does try his very best to cater for you, and in my opinion does nothing wrong- infact he does a very good job, and works extremely hard- credit to him. The other comments relating to use of the toilet and rudeness- in my experience at least, I have experienced this and hope I never will. Again, service is not going to be what you expect from a high flying restaurant such as 'Les Portes des Indes' or any other 'posh' establishments- the workers are simply Indian workers with a standard but satisfactory knowledge of catering. They simply take your order, give you your food, and ask if everything is ok- simple, nothing to complain about.
Overall, you are going to eat along green street- if your thinking youre going to find the finest quality of service and catering, well- you're dissilusioned. Having said that, what you will find here is a good level of service, and basically that the food is brilliant, flavouresome, and to be honest,I cannot sing its praises any more than I have time!
Enjoy!.
