A review of Three Mills Cafe by Carol written on Friday 12th of February 2010
My mum and dad owned the three mills cafe from 1961 to 1972. When we moved to the three mills I was 11 years old and lived at home with mum and dad until I got married aged 20. I can still remember a number of things about that time. The smell from the Yardley soap factory just opposite was something to be experienced - what a pong!! Each week I went with my mum to the public baths at Forest Gate as there was no bath room in the flat. I can also still remember walking along the river to the three mills although at that time it must have been disused, even then it looked really great. I went to the Abbey Lane secondary school, although I think this was pulled down a long time ago. The original old bow bridge was still there when we moved to the three mills but this was replaced with the bow flyover during our time in the cafe. It was really good to find this web site..
