A review of Tripti Tandoori by Notrom written on Saturday 3rd of October 2009
The Tripti used to have a poor reputation - average or even sub-average food, and absolutely the standard, totally predictable Indian menu. Becasue of that I haven't been there in wello over 10 years and would have kept it that way had it not been for a friend having his stag night there last night.
Opening the menu with some trepidation, I was delighted to see many items you'd never find on the average high street menu: mussels in a creamy sauce (superb) and the Nepalese speciality momo. Can't remember much more, after all, it was a stag night! The veggy dishes were excellent and the various naan (particularly a very herby one) were a deight. We spent some £350 (excluding tip) for about ten of us but that included a lot of beer and wine and, after we had individually ordered starters and mains, the groom-to-be had told the waiter to give us enough rice and side dishes for the ten of us - an open invitation to up the bill.
All in all, can't recommend too highly. The restaurant needs rebranding and a major local relaunch to overcome commonly held prejudices such as mine. I understand it will shortly be renamed but can't remember what as..
