A review of Edmonton Cemetery by Valerie Forbes written on Wednesday 2nd of September 2009
When you walk through the main gates of Edmonton Cemetery it is hard to believe it is flanked on two sides by busy roads.
There is an air of peace and tranquility as you walk up the drive to the Chapel.
The lawns are well manicured with the wonderful colour of the large Rhododendron Bushes and the sounds of birdsong in the large trees that have been there for hundreds of years!
This is a place where you can wander along the Avenues taking in the beauty of the trees and flowers left by people remembering their loved ones.
It makes you wonder what the people named on the headstones were like, what kind of lives did they lead and what they would have thought of life today.
There is also a Garden of Rememberance for the fallen of both World Wars and interestingly a memorial for the victims of a plane crash that happened on a Sunday afternoon in September 1938 where sadly families enjoying their Sunday Lunch were killed and injured as a single seater RAF Fighting Plane crashed into one of the houses in Dunholme Road Edmonton.
This is a place not only for tending graves but a source of Local History and is well worth a visit!
See what hidden secrets you can discover! .
