A review of The Drapers Arms by Anonymous written on Thursday 27th of August 2009
After all the hype and rave reviews - and given the pedigree of the people who've re-launched the eplace - we arrived with high hopes but were really disappointed with our meal on 26 August 2009. We were charged £ 7.50 for a beetroot salad with two strips of smoked eel; the other starter was underdone, rubbery and clumsily presented razor clams (go to J Sheekey guys, and see how it's done). Main course was overcooked fatty pork served barely warm... Crashing pans and plates in the next door kitchen and seriously bad screechy music frequently interrupted our conversation (we ate in the first floor dining room) and the waitress couldn't wait to get rid of us even though it was barely 10 pm (we were the last ones there) bringing our bill before we asked fo it and before we'd finished our bottle of wine. Not somewhere to go for a special birthday treat. Very overpriced for what it offers -and some serious sound-proofing is required to eliminate the dodgy acoustics in the dining room (even with only three tables occupied, the reverberations were uncomfortable). When will restaurants give us a peaceful environment in which to eat and talk?
