A review of Hilly Fields Medical Centre by Cecilia written on Monday 27th of July 2009
I believe that allowing patients to book one week in advance has been a great progress. However, I fully agree with one of the patients that has mentioned the inconveniences of not having the facility of booking weeks in advance.
The current system is biased towards pensioners, and people with lots of time in their hands.
When you have great commitments, are a carer, work or study full time, planning is a great advantage.
For instance, I work full time and long hours, and look also after a family. I take a medication that cannot be renewed before seeing the doctor. For both the surgery and me will be easier to have the next appointment fixed two months in advance. If there is a reasonable system of cancellation in place (eg 24 hours) and a penalty if you do not cancel with enough time, I cannot see any waste for anybody. There are plenty of patients that will be able to be accommodated, and if not (very unlikely) what's wrong with give them a couple of minutes more to the remaining patients. I have been in the surgery for more than 19 years and I have never seen it that it was short of patients, even if they claim that there are cancelation. And as for the laughing lady who cannot understand this situations, please get a life!.
