£3.80 for a bacon roll. I kid you not.
I went wobbly at the knees when the girl working there asked me for this joke of a price. (btw - tip to the staff: try and smile a bit and show your customers that you actually are from this planet and not from the planet youaredirtonmyshoegetoutofmyshop when they come in and greet you. Also, speaking in Engish is quite useful as well)
So back to the roll in hand... IF the roll had have actually lived up to the massive poster in the shop that quotes "The best bacon roll in the world", I wouldn't have minded so much about spending this amount. In reality, the bacon had bits stuck to it from previous 'things' that had been cooked in the grill, the roll was on a knife's edge between stale and fossilised.
Then there was the ketchup - imagine taking a swig from a bottle of vinegar and swilling it around your mouth - that was the effect it had and I actually winced as as the sharpness of the chemicals and old battery liquid massaged my tongue and stripped it of skin. The sensation took me back to when I was 6 years old and had a fry-up in a roadside cafe that was frequented by lorry drivers and Hell's Angels. They used a similar sauce for consumption and stripping engines in the carpark.
Happy times...
I work in the local vicinity and was pre-warned how bad Cafe Amore was/is. Crikey - those people weren't wrong. The place is best avoided for things like this.
Although I'm sure their bottled water tastes ok..
