A review of The Old Bank by Easy to Please written on Sunday 17th of May 2009
I do not know how this restaurant is still in business. We got there early and there weren't many new sittings in our time there and drinks orders were not flowing so were the income is I do not know.
Looking at the 2006 review, the service is still as poor. The food takes too long to arrive and the drink is rationed by virtue of the poor table service.
This was a normal Saturday night. Arrived, 7:30. Drinks order taken 8:00, Menus received 8:10, Starters (only 2 of 7 having a starter) and garlic bread arrive 8:50. Mains 10:00.
I spent most of the meal wanting a drink but waiters do not come to ask you if you are okay, i.e. cue drinks, and you feel invisible rather than the elephant in the room.
We queried the delay in service - none of us had ever experienced this - and were given the 'fresh ingredients, variety of dishes for 7 of you' argument. However, our order was not difficult to cook (apart from last item) - 2 swordfish, 1 plain penne, 1 carbonara, 1 ravioli, 1 courgette penne, 1 stuffed chicken.
The chicken and swordfish were well received, the carbonara was fine but as for the ravioli and courgette dishes - no hunger could make a sweet enough sauce for these to be finished.
I ordered an apple juice for my daughter but had a pineapple delivered - we were broken at this stage and did not complain.
