"A broad square, filled with trees, flowers, and garden ground opens before us." - Max Schlesinger, Saunterings in and about London.
Situated in the heart of London's exclusive Mayfair area, Berkeley Square is a particularly attractive square surrounded by high class shops and ultra-expensive accommodation.
Berkeley Square has had a song named after it, a fictitious TV mini series named after it, and though not as old as St. James's or Bloomsbury Squares, it is one of the oldest and most important of the squares in the West End of London.
Its origin, the noble family and mansion from which it takes its name, the original appearance of many of the houses, and its position in the heart of a fashionable part of the city all contribute to the square's importance and interest.
And the number of notable people who have at one time or another lived in the square gives it an almost historic position in the annals of the country.
