Event location: London Coliseum. Ongoing event.
One of the world's most in-demand ballerinas returns to London from 26-28 August at the Coliseum.
After last year's successful season at the iconic venue, Irina Kolesnikova is returning with a new take on an old classic, Her Name was Carmen. She has been described as "the one true diva" (Debra Craine, The Times) and "a phenomenon of the ballet world" (Jeffery Taylor, Sunday Express). Now the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre takes Merimee's story to a refugee camp on the fringes of Europe.
Andrei Kuznetzov-Vecheslov's bold interpretation distils the emotional directness of Bizet's opera and speaks to timeless themes of hope, despair, suffering and a thirst for a better life. The staging, drawing on one of the most pressing issues facing humanity, adds an unexpected urgency and pathos to the tragic tale.
With the Orchestra of English National Opera.
