The HOUSE OF LORDS, 97 ft. long by 45 wide, and 45 high, the grandest room in the whole building, which may be divided into three distinct parts: the southern, containing the throne of the sovereign and the Prince of Wales's chair; the central, with the woolsack of the Lord Chancellor, president of the house, and the seats of the peers; and the northern, behind the bar, for the accommodation of members of the House of Commons and the counsel employed in legal investigations. The northern and southern walls of the House of Lords are adorned by fine frescoes by Cope, Horsley, and Maclise.
